British Masters & Seniors Championships 2016 PDF Print E-mail
Ponds Forge, Sheffield. 1st - 3rd April 2016.  Our small, but perfectly formed, team headed to Sheffield for the British Long Course Championships at the weekend.  3 days of racing saw outstanding swims from each and every one of our swimmers with PBs being smashed all over the place.  Tilly Ansell swam well all weekend but her 200BK was a great performance to knock 2secs off her entry time.  Mel Holland was an injury concern going into the weekend and didnít know if she would swim at all, so to complete the 200IM, 400IM & 100Fly was testament enough, let alone to break 3 East Region Records doing it!

Swimming Robben Island in Cape Town PDF Print E-mail
Cape Town, South Africa, 13 February 2016. Having spent ALL of my open water training in the North Sea, the thought of swimming in foreign waters with ‘bigger’ marine life really pushes me out of my comfort zone!  I swam the English Channel solo back in 2013.  I became absolutely addicted!  Since then I have completed two further Channels – the Gibraltar Strait (Spain to Morocco) and the Catalina Channel (Catalina Island to California Mainland).  When my South African friend Roger Finch asked me to come down to South Africa and swim from Robben Island (prison to Nelson Mandela for 27 years) to Blouberg Beach in Cape Town.  I leapt at the chance.  The plan was we would do a two way (approximately 15km) in preparation for an upcoming 24km + swim.

Warwick Thompson PDF Print E-mail
The Club is very sad to announce the passing of Norwich Swan stalwart Warwick Thompson who lost his long and courageous fight against cancer on 14th February. Warwick was not just a great friend and supporter of our club but of swimming right across the whole spectrum of the East Anglian Region.  President of Norwich Swan and a one time member and coach of Masters’ club East Anglian Swallow Tails, Warwick recognised the power of aquatics and how it could appeal and empower swimmers of all abilities and ages. He and his loving wife Jean were never far away from many of the region’s swimming events, all of whom benefited not just from his consummate knowledge of the sport; conveyed via his expert commentaries but also from his at times wicked sense of humour.  Of course from our own perspective our Meets will never be quite the same again and we will miss hearing his soft dulcet tones and seeing his warm friendly smile while walking past his much loved commentary perch at the Sportspark and our thoughts go out to his lovely wife Jean and family at this very sad time.  Warwick’s funeral is to be held at Earlham Crematorium on Thursday 25th February at 9:45am.
