City of Norwich win Norfolk Junior League
UEA City of Norwich win Norfolk Junior League Final. With first place seeding after the first round of Junior League, the A team approached the final with confidence. However, with 2 swimmers down and knowing that other teams had some strong swimmers there was no time for complacency, we had to swim well with no DQ’s.
British Gas Masters & Senior Age Group Championships 4th – 6th May 2012 Ponds Forge, Sheffield Jenny Mayne kicked off proceedings with a great 1500m FS, clocking a time almost 2 minutes quicker than her entry time and setting the standard for the meet with a new East Region record. Our normal 4x50m relay team of Adam Korn, Jo Johnson, Lynne Meale & Phill Moulson had set themselves a new target for this weekend-to up the stakes and try to break the British and European record in the 4x200m FS. The challenge was set and the challenge was met as they finished 2 seconds under both records but it was a bitter/sweet moment as they were beaten to first place-the record was broken but it wouldn’t be theirs!

German International Swimming Championships
The Club is very pleased to announce that British Swimming World Class Programmes have invited Alex Pinniger to become part of their coaching staff for Team GB and accompany Jess Applegate when she competes in the German International Swimming Championships held between 26th June and 2nd July in Berlin. This is an integral part of Team GB’s preparation for the Paralympics and it will be a great experience for both Alex and Jess. Back home it will also provide a great opportunity for our young aspiring coaches to continue their own PDPs in Alex’s absence.
Masters do multi sports!
Members of our masters squad demonstrated their many skills last weekend. Becky Schofield and Tony Robinson were both representing Great Britain in their age group at the European Triathlon Championships in Israel. Both Becky and Tony joined the masters squad at the end of last year and have since made great progress in their swimming. This showed at the weekend with their fantastic results – a bronze medal for Becky and a 4th place for Tony. Mark Clayton showed he can go fast both in and out of the pool. He took 5 minutes of his previous PB and finished the London marathon in 2 hours 52 minutes smashing that 3 hour barrier that challenges so many runners.
UEA City of Norwich were lucky enough to have both our A and B teams at the same gala in round 1 of Junior League held at Thetford pool. So with over thirty 9-12 year olds it was a fast and furious evening with individual events for all swimmers as well as relays. The strength of our swimmers was evident from the start of the gala with our teams coming in first and second in the first two relay events of the night. The British Paralympic Association confirmed today (10th April) that Jessica-Jane Applegate is amongst the first 16 British swimmers that have been selected for ParalympicsGB for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Congratulations to Jess from all at the club, and we wish you well for the Games! Jess made the qualifying times for the 200 free and 100 back the final trials in Sheffield over the Easter weekend, breaking a national record in the process. Well done Jess!
Easter Meet 2012
Thanks to all those clubs swimmers and spectators who attended to make this our biggest and (hopefully you think so as well) best Easter Meet ever! With a record of 65 clubs attending from as far away as Dubai, Ireland and Scotland, bringing a total of 625 swimmers, the facilities of the 50 metre pool were used to the full. The club would like to thank all those involved in whatever way for the effort made to help - some even staying on after a hard three days to help clear up, now thats dedication for you!
We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
