West Suffolk May Open Meet 2013 |

Forty five swimmers from City of Norwich SC spent the weekend at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre for West Suffolk Swimming Club May Open meet. Grace Madsen (JD) started the weekend well on Friday evening by achieving Regional Times in both the 400m freestyle followed by the challenging 400m IM. The next day, Grace also claimed her RQT for the 200m IM. Our other JD swimmers showed the strength of our younger squad with great pb’s by our nine year old boys –

Norfolk ASA Masters Championships 2013 |

A 17-strong City of Norwich Masters team competed in the Norfolk Masters Championships on Saturday May 18th and, once again, did not disappoint. This is always a great event to encourage the newer members of the team to have a go at their first competition and this resulted in some great swims and an enjoyable evening. Overall, City of Norwich came away with 32 golds, 12 silvers, 2 bronzes and an East Region record – a fantastic night’s work and an encouraging performance leading up to the British Championships, which are only 4 weeks away. Well done everyone! |

The UEA city of Norwich SC will be hosting the IOS Seminars on Freestyle and Backstroke on the 30th May at the UEA Sportspark. Bookings will close on the 23rd May, so this is your last chance to secure places. Each seminar is £35. Funding is available to the tune of £20 per candidate from Active Norfolk. Sportspark Closed 12-13th June |

UEA Sportspark will be closed on 12th & 13th June for urgent repairs to the pool floor. Therefore there will be no swimming at Sportspark on these dates. All other sessions at other pools will continue as usual. Can swimmers discuss training session options for that week with their coach to keep their training disruption to a minimum. |

Easter Meet Level 1, 29th-31st March 2013 |

New scoreboard, new Omega starting blocks, new 3-day programme and a completely full meet with no rejections heightened everyone’s excitement and anticipation that this was to be our best Easter Meet yet! 90 UEA City of Norwich swimmers competed over the 3 days. The performances, pb’s and team spirit were exceptional right across the board.

Zara Bullen, a member of the masters squad, takes on an incredible challenge this Friday and Saturday. She will swimming 1 mile on the hour every hour for 24 hours. Yes that’s 24 x 1600m on 60mins! The event – 2swim4life – takes place in an outdoor pool in Guildford. It requires incredible mental as well as physical stamina to manage the swimming, resting and sleeping (particularly through the night) whilst keeping to the turnaround time. This is part of Zara’s ongoing preparation for swimming the channel later this year. We wish her well. |

Please note East Region identified early this week that the Girls 15/16 50 Fly time had changed to 33.85 - it should be 31.85. This has now been corrected and version 5 will remain as the final version of Qualifying Times for this year’s BAGCATS/Youth championships - the previous modifications are highlighted in yellow. See link opposite in Noticeboard menu. The East Regional Technical Swimming Committee send sincerest apologies for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused to clubs, swimmers and parents. |

British International Open Meet |

British International Open Meet, 7th-10th March 2013. The annual British Championships have been switched to June due to the findings of the post-Olympic swimming review. So this year we saw the first British Swimming International Open Meet. It was held at the Leeds International Pool at the John Charles Centre. This is a new venue for British Swimming meets. 16 Year-old Jessica-Jane Applegate had another superb swimming meet.
