Co Norwich SC had a good turn out to this years East Regional Open Water Championships at Whittlingham Broad, Sunday 9th July, Racing 1k to 5k. The weather was a little overcast with the threat of rain and thunderstorms. It did rain during the 3k but luckily there were no storms.
Water Temp was a mild 21.1 degrees – so no wetsuits. Open Water is a totally different swimming experience, not everyone can cope with murky water, weeds and wildlife (above and below the surface) and no turns either. Fantastic results for our City of Norwich Swimmers!
Jack Tate – 17/18y Boys: 5th in region, 1st for Norfolk.
Austin Taylor – 14yr age group: 11th in the Region, 3rd for Norfolk
Grace Cook – 14yr age group: 12th in the Region, 1st for Norfolk
Matt Phoenix – 15y Boys: 5th in the Region, 1st for Norfolk
Brook Clipsham – 14y Girls: 18th in Region, 4th for Norfolk
Noah Buchan – 12y Boys: 2nd in Region, 1st for Norfolk.
Lawrence Taylor 11/12 age group – 5th in the Region, 1st for Norfolk.
This was Lawrence’s first ever open water event. Sarah (Mum) also gained a medal with 2nd place in her age group in the 3k; and Spike (Dad) finished the trio with a gold for his age group in the 3k. There was a great atmosphere and some very exciting swimming.
