Central Zonal Meet, 28th-29th January 2012 Corby 50m A team of Norwich swimmers competed over the weekend at the 2nd ASA Zonal Meet. The ASA Regions are grouped into 3 ‘Zones’ (South, Central and North) resulting in a high standard of competition. We were competing in the Central Zone along with the East Midland and the West Midland regions. Clubs competing included Loughborough, Hatfield, City of Birmingham, City of Coventry and Nova Centurion. It was great to see Rebecca Adlington swim the 400 metres freestyle as part of her build up to the trials and 2012 Olympics. At last year’s zonal meet Norwich swimmers came away with 1 medal – a gold. This year saw a phenomenal team improvement to 10 medals – 4 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.

Colleen Millar (1957-2011) |
It is with deep regret that we have to inform you of the sad passing of Colleen Millar. Colleen was associated with Norwich Penguins for many years, first as a swimmer and then as a Teacher and Coach, moving on to manage Penguins Teaching Section and serve on the Club’s Management Committee. A qualified ASA Tutor, Colleen was instrumental in teaching many of our swimmers to teach, some of whom still teach to this day for the Club and was also heavily involved in holding lifesaving courses delivering many rescue tests for the Club’s coaches and teachers over the years. Colleen leaves behind husband Bob, daughter Alison and grand daughter Amelia, our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

Many thanks indeed to all those attending, we hope you enjoyed your swimming and had a great time! It was the first time we have run a Mini Meet and a Beginners Gala simultanenously and whilst it gave us a few technical delays in getting started, all went well in the end. Special thanks to the Young Volunteers from around the county who all performed their allocated duites extremely well - we hope to see you next time! Mini-Meet results (corrected & updated) available here. Beginners Results here. Thanks also to S14 British Record Holder Jessica-Jane Applegate for presenting the awards to the children. |
